Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski discusses Greenland situation, stating Poland’s ambassador will travel to assess developments amid US interest.
Sikorski on Greenland’s Status
Radosław Sikorski stated, “I don’t know if Greenland can simply be taken over.” He noted that currently, Greenland’s constitution and agreements between Denmark and Greenland are in force, according to which Greenlanders have the right to demand a referendum, the right to become independent, and the right to make their own choices.
US Presence in Greenland
The foreign minister mentioned that “the United States have so-called operational freedom in Greenland.” He added, “Once they had many bases with up to 15,000 soldiers, today they have 150, but that is a decision of the United States.”
Poland’s Position
“We should strive for a world where some norms apply,” Sikorski said. “A world where big countries can arbitrarily change the borders of smaller countries is a world we have seen in the past, and in which Poland was rather a victim of such actions.” He clarified, “I don’t share the enthusiasm of our right wing, which believes that a world of law of the fist will be beneficial for Poland.”
Diplomatic Response
“In the coming days, our ambassador from Copenhagen will travel to Greenland to also get oriented on the situation on the spot,” Sikorski announced.
Trump’s Statements
“The United States needs Greenland for national security. It is essential for the Golden Dome we are building. NATO should lead us in its conquest. IF WE DON’T DO THIS, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL, AND THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN!” – US President Donald Trump wrote on Wednesday on the Truth Social portal. He added, “NATO will become much more formidable and effective when Greenland is in the hands of THE UNITED STATES. Anything else is unacceptable.”
