Sikorski Hits Palace: Claim of MiG‑29 Transfer to Ukraine – ‘President Knew’

Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski blasted the president and his aides for supposedly being uninformed about plans to ship MiG‑29 fighters to Ukraine, insisting the president was fully aware.

Foreign Minister’s Accusations

Sikorski posted on social media that President Andrzej Duda and his collaborators claimed they had not been informed about a plan to transfer MiG‑29 fighters to Ukraine. He counter‑claimed that the president not only knew of the plan, the Polish General Staff was persuaded, and they worked close together to reach the decision.

He then addressed the president directly: “Isn’t that so?”

Defense Minister Nawrocki Responds

During a press conference in Riga, Defence Minister Karol Nawrocki said he had not received official notification of the MiG‑29 shipment. He expressed sympathy for Prime Minister‑in‑‑office Rafał Kosiniak‑Kamysz, noting that cooperation is solid in many areas and that the public’s concerns have been calmed. He said a misunderstanding had arisen.

Nawrocki added that he is calm and will discuss the matter with the Defense Minister, affirming he did not receive any official detail about the weapons transfer.

President’s Aide Highlights Lack of Information

Wojciech Kolarski, State Secretary in the President’s Chancellery, explained that President Duda was not informed because no documentation—protocols, notes or other records—was sent to the National Security Bureau. There was no stance from the Committee on National Security that would require the president to be briefed.

He insisted that no decision was formally communicated to the Bureau, meaning the president was not properly informed.

Prime Minister’s Cabinet Acknowledges Ongoing Discussion

Pawel Graś, head of the Prime Minister’s political cabinet, posted on X that the issue of MiG‑29s has been under discussion for more than a year and has been reviewed multiple times with the weekly Security Committee, where a BBN representative participates.
