Sikorski on US Ambassador Incident: We’re Sensitive to Superior Tone

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski comments on the diplomatic row with US Ambassador Tom Rose, emphasizing Poland’s sensitivity to perceived superiority.

Sikorski on US-Poland Relations

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that “Donald Trump easily doesn’t get offended,” noting that current Vice President J.D. Vance had previously criticized Trump, while New York Mayor Eric Trump had called him a fascist yet was still invited to the White House. Sikorski suggested that excessive concern about not criticizing Trump lies with the opposition.

“Everyone understands the difference in potentials. The United States is a superpower, and we are a medium-sized country, but at least, aside from Law and Justice, we are sensitive to a superior tone,” Sikorski emphasized.

Defending the Sejm Marshal’s Dignity

Regarding US Ambassador Tom Rose, Sikorski stated that “the role of every diplomat is rather to expand their range of contacts with the authorities of the host country.” As former Sejm Marshal, he added, “I will particularly defend the dignity of the Sejm Marshal.”

Sikorski expressed hope that Rose would draw conclusions from the situation. He noted that the Sejm Marshal serves in two roles: first, as a parliamentarian with more freedom than the executive branch, and second, as head of an important coalition party. Sikorski evaluated that in his written response, the marshal used materials provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while in his press statement, he spoke more as a politician.

Czarzasty vs. Rose Diplomatic Spat

Last week, Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced he would not nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Czarzasty emphasized the need to strengthen the European Union, NATO, UN, WHO, and oneself for security, stating that “President Trump destabilizes these organizations with his power politics and conducts transactional policy using force.”

Czarzasty accused Trump of breaking political principles, values, and often international law. This statement drew a sharp reaction from US Ambassador Tom Rose, who announced breaking relations with the Sejm Marshal. In response to a user’s suggestion on X that Rose should return to the USA, the ambassador asked if he should take American soldiers’ equipment with him.
