Sikorski: Poland Demands Revocation of Zbigniew Ziobro’s US Visa

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski confirmed on Saturday that Poland is formally requesting the United States to cancel the journalist visa granted to opposition politician Zbigniew Ziobro, citing potential abuse of process.

Questioning the Visa Legitimacy

Sikorski stated that obtaining a journalist visa requires a recommendation letter from a media outlet, raising questions about how Ziobro, who is not a journalist, secured such documentation. He emphasized that visas are sovereign decisions, particularly when the conditions for their issuance have been violated.

The Foreign Minister noted that Ziobro’s activities in the US, described as political tours rather than journalism, are not consistent with the visa’s purpose. Sikorski confirmed he has discussed these concerns with the US Ambassador to Poland and senior State Department officials.

Allegations of Diplomatic Misconduct

Reports indicate that two US Democratic Representatives have asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio to investigate whether former Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau influenced the visa process. Sources suggest Landau bypassed standard procedures by citing national security concerns to facilitate Ziobro’s entry before the Hungarian government transition.

Sikorski warned that Ziobro’s presence could become a source of significant embarrassment for the current US administration. He reiterated that Poland is actively seeking clarity on the premises used to grant the visa, which he characterized as being obtained under false pretenses.

Legal and Extradition Complications

Poland has requested that Hungary revoke the asylum status previously granted to Ziobro and Marcin Romanowski. Sikorski stated that if these travel documents are annulled, the validity of the US visa, which is linked to them, remains uncertain.

Zbigniew Ziobro is currently a suspect in a domestic investigation concerning the Justice Fund. The National Prosecutor’s Office has accused him of directing an organized criminal group and committing 26 separate offenses during his tenure, including the misuse of public funds and interference in competitive bidding processes.
