Sikorski: You Are Prepping the Groundwork for a Polexit

Polish Defence Minister Radosław Sikorski publicly accused nationalist politician Karol Nawrocki of sowing discontent toward the EU, saying his rhetoric is dangerous and could lead to a Polexit.

Sikorski Criticizes Nawrocki’s 2011 Speech

During a parliamentary address, Sikorski quoted Karol Nawrocki’s 2011 remarks, accusing him of mentioning the Russian aggression and the bombardments of Kyiv to malign the EU. He alleged that some Polish politicians are ready to gradually surrender sovereignty to foreign institutions and EU agencies.

He added that Nawrocki’s comments were not mere words, referring to a day later when Nawrocki refused to resign 46 judges for citing EU law. This prompted several PiS MPs to leave the Sejm chamber.

Offensive and Dangerous Comments

Sikorski called Nawrocki’s speech “offensive and dangerous,” arguing that EU membership does not erode sovereignty but, rather, helped Poland shed its communist past. He compared this to Ukraine fighting to escape Russian dominance.

He questioned whether Brussels could send tanks or how many bombs London dropped to punish Britain for Brexit, implying such actions would endanger Polish independence if sanctions against Russia were not unanimous.

Labeling Critics as Political Disruptors

According to Sikorski, those blaming Ukraine for Russia’s actions in Poland are political disruptors. He warned that Russia funds disinformation campaigns to turn public opinion against Poland, the EU, and Ukrainian refugees.

He condemned certain Polish politicians who, instead of opposing such tactics, conspire with Russia or exploit anti‑EU sentiment for political gain while posing as patriots.

Calling for Nawrocki’s Resignation

Sikorski reiterated his criticism, saying that Nawrocki’s nationalist views could lead to preparations for leaving the EU—what he termed a “Polexit.” He urged Nawrocki to resign or otherwise step down, stressing that the role of a nationalist cannot shape foreign policy without constitutional authority.
