Silesia: Four-Year-Old Falls from Third-Floor Balcony. Police Investigate.

A four-year-old fell from a balcony on the third floor in Wola, Silesia, on Friday; police are investigating the incident.

Incident Details

As reported by “Gazeta Wyborcza,” Subcomisarz Jadwiga Śmietana of the Pszczyna District Police stated the incident occurred on Friday at 17:44. The duty firefighter received a report that a small child “fell from the third floor” on Górnicza Street in Wola.

Police Investigation and Warning

The child can be considered fortunate. The fall was cushioned by a growing tree near the building. “The child did not sustain serious injuries but was hospitalized as it is a toddler and needed examination,” said Subcomisarz Śmietana. Police determined the child was under the father’s care, who was sober. The exact circumstances are still under investigation.

Police warn: children are curious and unaware of dangers. “Curious children don’t realize the dangers they face, so we parents are responsible for them and must ensure their safety during play,” police state.

Safety Recommendations

Police urge parents and guardians to supervise children closely. “Pay attention to where our children are, what they are doing, and the nature of their play. Do not leave children unattended at home. Ensure their play areas, including windows and doors, are safe. Unsecured windows and doors can cause many accidents,” they advise.

Police emphasize: upon arriving home, always lock doors, avoid placing furniture near windows that children could climb on, and secure windows to prevent children from opening them independently. “For a child, a balcony is also fascinating. Play there only under adult supervision. Shield balcony railings and avoid placing climbable objects on balconies. Never leave a child alone on a balcony or in a room with open windows,” they appeal.
