On December 24 at 6.30 a.m., a fatal head‑on collision between a Ford Kuga and a Volkswagen Passat on Poland’s National Road 39 in Zielęcice killed six people, with police confirming one victim’s identity.
Identity of one victim confirmed
Police announced that one of the fatalities, a 59‑year‑old resident of the Brzesc district and driver of the Ford Kuga, has been identified. The remaining five victims, all passengers of the Volkswagen Passat, will be identified after DNA tests.
Frontal collision and subsequent fire
The crash occurred at 6:30 a.m. on the intersection of roads 39 and 94. The vehicles collided head‑on; one vehicle caught fire. Despite immediate rescue efforts, all six occupants died at the scene.
Emergency response under prosecutor supervision
Firefighters, medical rescuers and police worked for hours, with firefighters extinguishing the burning car and breaching it to access the Passat. The road was fully blocked for many hours; traffic rerouted via Skarbimierz‑Osiedle and Zielęcice. Full restoration of traffic followed the completion of rescue operations.
