Six-Year-Old Miraculously Survives Spanish Train Crash After Walking Alone on Tracks

A six-year-old girl was the sole survivor of her family in a deadly train crash in Spain, found walking alone on the tracks near the wreckage.

Only Survivor of Her Family

The six-year-old girl was the only survivor from her entire family in the crash near Adamuz. Her parents, 12-year-old brother, and cousin were killed. The Zamorano Alvarez family was returning home to Aljaraque, near Huelva, after a weekend trip to Madrid. For the children, it had been an outing for the Three Kings holiday, where they saw the musical “The Lion King” and visited Real Madrid’s stadium.

The disaster dramatically cut short their journey. Of the five family members, only the youngest survived.

She Walked Alone on the Tracks

The girl was found at night walking alone on the railway tracks near the derailed wagons. A female Guardia Civil officer, who was returning from a private weekend trip, was among the first to help the victims.

“They told me to take her with me, and I didn’t hesitate for a moment. She was very cold, so we kept her in the patrol car with the heating on. The whole time, she only talked about her parents,” the officer recounted in an interview with Spanish television. She added that she didn’t ask the child about her family because she already knew what had happened to her loved ones.

Extraordinary Courage of the Six-Year-Old

According to the Guardia Civil officer’s account, the girl managed to escape the wrecked carriage herself. She removed her coat and shoes to squeeze through the damaged structure of the train.

“I’ve never seen such a brave child. She didn’t seem to realize the tragedy that had befallen her,” said the Guardia Civil officer. The girl suffered only a minor head injury and was taken to Reina Sofia Hospital in Cordoba, where she received several stitches. She is now in the care of extended family.

City in Mourning

Authorities in Aljaraque confirmed the death of four family members. The Zamorano Alvarez family was also known in Punta Umbria, where they ran a children’s clothing store. The mayor spoke of “immense pain and disbelief,” and local authorities declared days of mourning.

“It’s a miracle that the girl survived, but our city is devastated,” emphasized the mayor of Aljaraque.

One Story Among Dozens of Tragedies

According to Spanish media, the death toll from the disaster has risen to at least 43 people. Rescue services are still working at the scene, and investigators are examining the causes of the collision between two high-speed trains. Families continue to report missing persons, and victim identification is progressing slowly. Spanish authorities have declared three days of national mourning.
