The State Electoral Commission has applied to strip New Hope, the political group led by former president, from Poland’s party register, with a Warsaw court hearing scheduled for November 21.
Legal Action Set for November 21
The State Electoral Commission formally requested the court to remove New Hope from the register of political parties. Warsaw’s District Court will consider the request on November 21, according to Rzeczpospolita.
Financial Report Filed by Unauthorized Person
Rzeczpospolita reported that a 2024 financial statement for New Hope was to be submitted by an individual lacking proper authority. Under Polish law, this constitutes a failure to file a required report.
Party Dissolution Could Allow New Formation
Activists of New Hope alleged that if the party is struck from the register, its leader Sławomir Mentzen could register a new political formation. Mentzen currently serves as co‑chair of the Confederation’s leadership council, the coalition of right‑wing parties.
2023 Report Rejected for Violations
The State Electoral Commission also rejected New Hope’s 2023 financial report, citing removal of critical data from payment lists and other breaches of the Act on Political Parties.
