A fire alarm rang at the Centrum station on the M1 metro line in Warsaw, and a small amount of smoke emerged from a technical fault, leaving the station evacuated.
Evacuation and Response
Firefighters were called to the scene; a total of six crews—including the city operational group and a plant crew—responded, and the evacuation was completed with no casualties.
Technical Cause
Preliminary investigations indicate an earth fault at a switch, which triggered the minor smoke.
Service Disruptions
The affected section of the M1 line, KABATY ↔ POLITECHNIKA and DWORZEC GDAŃSKI ↔ MŁOCINY, had Centrum, Ratusz‑Arsenał, and Dw. Gdański stations temporarily closed.
Repairs in Progress
After the firefighting operation ended, metro technical staff will take over for further repairs, while tram line 15 and bus route “Za Metro” are being re‑activated in parallel.
