Smuggled Balloons Fall in Eastern Poland, Some Burn

Several balloons carrying illegal cigarettes crashed in the Mazovia and Podlasie regions of Poland on Saturday, with one incident causing a fire.

Police are investigating the objects that fell, confirming no injuries have been reported. Officers are currently at the scene.

Details of the Balloon Incident

The object fell before noon, away from any buildings, according to RMF FM reporter Kacper Wróblewski. It was discovered that two balloons were involved, each carrying a package containing 4,000 illegal cigarettes.

Additional Balloon Found Near Belarus Border

Another balloon was found Saturday morning in Domuraty, approximately 30 kilometers from the Belarusian border. It snagged on a power line and burned.

Cigarette Smuggling via Balloon

Polish authorities are regularly called to deal with balloons used by smugglers from Belarus to deliver duty-free cigarettes. These meteorological balloons typically carry several thousand cigarettes, equivalent to hundreds of packs.

Police Warning to the Public

Police advise the public not to approach or inspect any such objects. Instead, they urge people to call emergency services and await the arrival of officers to identify the location.
