Son of PiS MP Convicted for Assault. “We Can’t Let Her Go”

Michał A., son of PiS MP Iwona Arent, was convicted in Olsztyn for assaulting his ex-partner in June 2023.

Incident and Evidence

In June 2023, Michał A., then 29 and son of PiS MP Iwona Arent, and his acquaintance Magdalena T. assaulted the man’s former partner, Paulina C., in an apartment in Olsztyn.

Journalists from “Super Express” obtained footage of the incident, which was not published due to its brutality. The video showed Michał A. kicking his ex-partner and urging Magdalena T. to join the violence, shouting commands like “We can’t let her go,” “You fucking bitch, shut up,” and “Hit her, fuck her.”

Verdicts

Magdalena T. pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 6 months of restricted liberty (30 hours of community service monthly) and ordered to pay 1,000 PLN in compensation.

Michał A. did not admit guilt but was separately convicted by the District Court in Olsztyn on Wednesday, receiving a 7-month restricted liberty sentence (30 hours of community service monthly) and ordered to pay 3,000 PLN to the victim. The verdict is not final. The judge stated Michał A. fully accepted and supported Magdalena T.’s actions, which included more severe violence, though his own involvement was “to a significantly lesser degree.”

Iwona Arent’s Response

MP Iwona Arent initially claimed in 2023 that Paulina C. had stolen her son’s phone and money, and that Michał A. only “grabbed her by the hair and spat” without assault. After the video emerged, she temporarily suspended her political activities.

Arent later apologized, stating: “Absolutely no form of physical or psychological violence should be directed at anyone, especially a woman. I unnecessarily speculated about the incident’s details without knowing the circumstances, misleading the public. Even maternal care does not justify this. I apologize.”
