Sosnowiec Diocese Issues Statement: “Unacceptable. We Apologize”

The Sosnowiec diocese has issued a statement apologizing to those affected by a priest accused of child molestation.

Apology and Support for Victims

The diocese addressed the victims of the alleged sexual abuse, offering sincere apologies to those who suffered harm, especially children. It pledged spiritual, psychological, and material support for anyone in need.

Immediate Actions by the Diocese

After the first revelations, priest Jacek K. was suspended from ministry and all relevant data was handed over to the police. The diocese emphasized that it would not tolerate any obstruction to the investigation and stated it acted in accordance with canon law.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

On 5 December, the Sosnowiec Regional Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against Jacek K. for nine sexual offences and possession of child‑pornographic material involving seven minors, covering the period from 2008 to 2024. He was arrested on 1 October 2024 and faces up to 30 years in prison.

Current Status of the Accused Priest

Jacek K. remains in custody; further proceedings will be handled by the Apostolic See.
