South America Tensions Rise: Polish Foreign Ministry Issues Urgent Travel Warning

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned citizens against travel to Venezuela amid escalating U.S.-Venezuelan tensions, urging registration with the Odyseusz system.

Polish Travel Warning

The Polish Security Council issued an alert from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urging citizens to avoid traveling to Venezuela. The warning was sent to Polish mobile users in the country and advised them to register with the government’s Odyseusz security system.

A spokesperson for the ministry, Maciej Wewiór, said: ‘Due to the current security situation we strongly discourage all travel to Venezuela. Registering with Odyseusz takes only a few seconds and protects your safety.’

U.S. Pressure on Venezuela

On 1 December, President Trump called a White House meeting to plan further measures against Venezuela as the U.S. intensified pressure on Caracas and moved additional forces into the region.

Military deployments included several warships and 15,000 troops in the Caribbean under the ‘Southern Spear’ operation aimed at Venezuelan drug trafficking. Trump also pledged to block the country’s drug smuggling by land and ordered airlines to steer clear of Venezuelan airspace.

Trump-Maduro Negotiations

In a phone call, President Maduro offered to leave Venezuela after securing full amnesty for him and his family, lifting all U.S. sanctions, and ending the International Criminal Court proceedings. He also sought sanctions relief for more than 100 officials and wanted Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to head a transitional government.

Trump rejected most of these demands, instead giving Venezuela’s leader a seven‑day window to leave with his family and go anywhere in the world. The deadline, set for 28 November, has since expired.
