Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will travel to the scene of the railway disaster on Monday (January 19). Due to the tragedy in the town of Adamuz, the Prime Minister has canceled his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos. The head of the Spanish government was scheduled to meet with Donald Trump and Javier Milei and deliver a speech.

Deadly Train Derailment Kills at Least 39

The railway disaster occurred on Sunday (January 18) around 19:40 in Adamuz, Cordoba province, where two high-speed trains derailed. At least 39 people died and 152 passengers were injured. Local authorities reported that 75 people were hospitalized, with 24 in serious condition.

Transport Minister Describes Accident as “Very Strange”

According to preliminary findings, three last carriages of one train derailed and collided with a train coming from the opposite direction, with part of the carriages rolling down from an embankment. Transport Minister Oscar Puente called the accident “very strange” and noted it occurred on a track section renovated last May with a practically new train involved.
