A 20-year-old driver evaded police, crashed into a truck, and was arrested in Płońsk County, Poland, after a high-speed chase.
Speed Check Triggers Chase
On Friday, January 16, before 9 AM, traffic police in Dzierzążnia, Płońsk County, were conducting speed checks in a built-up area on National Road 10. They noticed an Audi driving excessively fast. A measurement showed 72 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
Driver Flees, Crashes
Despite a signal to stop using a sign, the driver accelerated toward Płock. Police pursued, using lights and sirens, but the Audi ignored them. During the chase, the driver overtook vehicles at high speed, lost control, slid into an island and road sign, then collided head-on with a Mercedes truck.
Arrest and Violations
After the crash, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by police. The 20-year-old resident of Płońsk County had lost his license in December for exceeding penalty points. He also wore an electronic monitoring device and had prior records for fraud and assault. Police issued fines for speeding and endangering traffic.
Criminal Charges
The Audi was impounded, and the driver was taken to the Płońsk Police Station. He faces up to five years in prison for failing to stop for a traffic check.
