Military Counterintelligence arrested a long-term MON employee suspected of spying for Belarus, using an ‘operational game’ to gather intelligence.
New Information About Spy in MON
The Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) arrested a long-term employee of the Ministry of National Defense on Tuesday, February 3. Onet revealed the employee worked for Belarusian intelligence. According to journalists, SKW knew since mid-2024 and used this knowledge for an ‘operational game’ to determine details of his actions and gather information on other potential agents. Simultaneously, he was discreetly removed from access to sensitive information.
Was Kamiński Wrong?
Onet’s findings contradict the version given by former special services coordinator Mariusz Kamiński. On Wednesday, he claimed the detained MON employee went on vacation to Belarus and could not return due to closed borders. ‘He was caught when he informed superiors he could not return to work,’ Kamiński wrote. According to sources from Polish special services leadership, the employee had been under intense counterintelligence observation for a year.

The suspect worked in the Department of Strategy and Defense Planning at the Ministry of National Defense. On Wednesday, February 4, he was charged with espionage for a foreign intelligence service and active participation, defined under Article 130, Paragraph 2 of the Penal Code. ‘It involves acting on behalf of a foreign intelligence service and providing it with information whose disclosure could harm the Republic of Poland,’ explained SKW.
On Thursday, the Regional Court for m.st. Warsaw decided to apply a preventive measure of three-month custody for the suspect.
