Stabbing Attack at Penn Station Ahead of Trump’s NBA Finals Visit

Six people were injured in a stabbing incident at Manhattan’s Penn Station on Sunday, just hours before President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.

Injuries and Medical Response

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 7:00 p.m. local time. According to CNN, one victim sustained serious injuries, while four others were treated for moderate or minor wounds and transported to Bellevue Hospital.

A spokesperson for the fire department confirmed a sixth victim was transported to a different hospital, though no further details regarding their health status have been released.

Suspect Apprehended

The suspect was taken into custody after law enforcement officers subdued him with pepper spray. Eyewitnesses described the individual as shouting and moving erratically during the arrest. Authorities have yet to release the suspect’s identity.

Official Statements and Security Concerns

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed his support for the victims, describing the event as an unacceptable act of violence. Security preparations for Monday’s NBA Finals match, already intensified due to the President’s planned attendance, are expected to involve enhanced coordination between the Secret Service, the NYPD, and other specialized agencies.

Logistical Challenges at Penn Station

The attack occurred at one of Manhattan’s busiest transit hubs, which serves millions of commuters, tourists, and sports fans annually. The area faces increased pressure due to the first NBA Finals game held at Madison Square Garden since 1999.
