A suspended State Protection Service officer allegedly threatened a TV Republika journalist with death, according to a published recording.
Suspension of State Protection Service Officers
On Tuesday, February 3, TVN24 reported on the dismissal of four directors of key divisions of the State Protection Service. Press spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior Administration Karolina Gałecka explained that the personnel changes are the result of an audit conducted by the SOP.
Media unofficially reported that a deputy director of the SOP division was also suspended. According to RMF FM’s findings, he is accused of violating ethical principles and directing threats at one of the journalists. Republika TV provided further information on the matter.
State Protection Officer Threatened to Kill Republika TV Journalist
Republika obtained a recording of a conversation from early 2024, in which the suspended SOP officer is said to have participated. The station reported that it concerns Wojciech B., who was head of security for Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
The SOP officer allegedly threatened to kill Republika investigative journalist Piotr Nisztor for publishing materials about him.
Recording with State Protection Officer
Republika published a fragment of a recording of an alleged conversation involving Wojciech B., a businessman who is said to be an acquaintance of the suspended SOP officer, and a woman whose information was not provided.
On the recording, Wojciech B. is heard talking about a planned assassination of the journalist. When the businessman noted that it would be “sweet meat, you can’t eat that,” Wojciech B. allegedly responded: “I won’t eat it. It will lie for a while to quiet down… Then I’ll pour oil on it”.
Republika journalist Jarosław Olechowski published a fragment of the recording conversation on X. The station announced that on Saturday, February 7, it will air a material in which the entire recording will be revealed.
Warsaw Lawyer Allegedly Recorded the State Protection Officer
RMF FM reported that the suspended SOP officer was recorded by his partner, who is said to be a well-known lawyer in Warsaw. It was conveyed that on the recordings, the woman registered, among other things, how the officer revealed sensitive information about protected persons, including their addresses of residence.
RMF FM established that the officer protected persons at the ministerial level.
