On Monday 15 December, Guaíba recorded a powerful wind gust reaching 130 km/h, exceeding earlier warnings that capped the threat at 90 km/h and warned of heavy storms.

The Collapse

The 24‑metre replica of the Statue of Liberty, mounted on an 11‑metre base, fell onto a parking lot where cars were parked. No injuries were reported.

Aftermath

A video posted online shows the statue tipping over and tumbling next to a parked vehicle; at the moment of the collapse multiple cars were present.

Company Response

Havan chain isolated the area, followed all security protocols, and launched an internal investigation. The company stated that debris removal did not interfere with normal operations and that the statue met all required safety standards.
