Stena Line Gdynia-Karlskrona Services Suspended After Ship Incident

Passengers are returning home after the Stena Spirit ferry experienced a mooring failure in Karlskrona, Sweden, on Wednesday, March 25th, causing service disruptions.

Ferry Incident Disrupts Services

An incident involving the Stena Spirit ferry occurred on Wednesday, March 25th, in Karlskrona. During mooring, the stern mooring rope broke, and combined with strong winds, affected the ship’s position, requiring tugboat assistance.

The ship was secured, and all 489 passengers disembarked.

Service Delays and Passenger Support

The incident rendered the berth unavailable as the Stena Spirit remained moored while awaiting final clearance to leave port. This resulted in delays for two other ferries, changes to operations on the Gdynia-Karlskrona line, and lengthy waiting times for passengers.

Stena Line Polska representative Agnieszka Nowakowska stated that passengers were provided with accommodation and meals in hotels and on board the ship.

Transportation by coach to Gdynia and ferry passage on another route were organized for passengers at Stena Line’s expense.

Rebookings and Cancellations

All sailings on the Gdynia-Karlskrona route in both directions have been cancelled until 8:00 AM on Monday, March 30th.

Reason for Suspension

Nowakowska explained that the decision was made out of concern for passengers, partners, and freight customers, aiming to provide clear and predictable information and avoid further uncertainty related to potential operational changes.

Stena Line’s Operations on the Route

Stena Line has operated the Gdynia – Karlskrona ferry route for over 30 years, utilizing three vessels, including two modern 240-meter E-Flexer class ferries – Stena Estelle and Stena Ebba.
