The publication of Chief Sławomir Cenckiewicz’s medical information sparked a flurry of official reactions, with the medical council demanding an investigation and the Ministry’s spokesperson confronting the allegations.
BBN Chief’s Response to Publication
Chief of the Central Bureau of Interference, Sławomir Cenckiewicz, called to calm public reaction. He warned that new evidence of data being passed by secret services to “patriotic hate-mongers” would be a major gain. He said that if people visit a doctor, get a prescription, those details might be described in the newspaper. Cenckiewicz further said the favorable judgment by the Warsaw Regional Administrative Court was a strike against them, that such “hate and battle” would follow, but that “the truth will win”.
Minister’s Spokesperson Rebuts Accusations
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesman for the Minister and coordinator of special services, dismissed the night‑time attacks on the services as a manifestation of fear rather than a gain. He stated that Polish services act strictly under the law, within their limits and respecting the rule of law, and that no confidential information is ever passed on. Dobrzyński urged colleagues to stop the “nightly bombardment with lies and slander” and claimed that those who withheld information in a safety questionnaire and then publicly accused the services of leaking hidden documents were “manipulators”.
Presidential Office Addresses Security Breach
The head of the president’s office, Pawel Szefernaker, described the disclosure of information from classified documents concerning Chief Cenckiewicz as a blatant breach of state principles and a serious alarm signal. He stressed that this is not a personal dispute but a situation that strikes at the foundations of security and public trust. Szefernaker referenced a similar tactic used against Karol Nawrocki during a campaign, warning that it could be applied to any responsible public official tomorrow.
Prime Minister Criticises Leak on X
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, in a post on X, argued that Poland cannot function under standards “from Belarus or Russia” and that today such standards are being applied. He called the situation “a reversal of order”, a violation of fundamental responsibility and a threat to national security, while expressing solidarity with Chief Cenckiewicz. Former member of the Together Party, Marcelina Zawisza, condemned the publication, saying that the release of personal medicine data is “politics of the moment” and could hurt those involved.
Medical Council Demands Investigation
The National Medical Council emphasized that data on a patient’s prescribed medications is extremely sensitive and should never be made public. The council called for an immediate investigative proceeding into the leak, demanding disclosure of the source of the information. In response, journalist Wojciech Czuchnowski questioned the legality of revealing a doctor’s actions when the patient herself publishes false claims.
Newspaper Reveals Alleged Drug Use
Gazeta Wyborcza reported that Chief Cenckiewicz did not list in 2020 the fact that he took drugs acting on the central nervous system. An informant claimed that one of the medications was psychotropic and the other had psycholeptic properties and could be fatal in overdose. In July 2024, the security certificate required for access to classified information was revoked by the Warsaw Regional Administrative Court. The decision remains unenforced, and the court has been appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court.
