Poland’s IMGW weather institute warns of strong winds, frosts, thawing temperatures, and potential storms across ten voivodeships through Easter.
Strong Winds in Northern Poland
The IMGW has issued strong wind warnings for northern regions of Poland, valid until Saturday, April 4th, at 7:00 PM. Coastal areas of the Pomeranian and West Pomeranian Voivodeships are expected to experience average wind speeds of up to 45 km/h, with gusts reaching 75 km/h from the west.
Frost and Thaw Warnings
Frost warnings are in effect for northeastern Poland from 9:00 PM Saturday to 7:00 AM the following day. These warnings cover the Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian, Podlaskian, Kujavian-Pomeranian, and parts of the West Pomeranian, Greater Poland, Łódź, Masovian, and Lublin Voivodeships.
Temperatures are forecast to drop locally to around -1°C in the air and -3°C on the ground in these areas.
Thaw Warning in Southern Lesser Poland
A thaw warning is also in effect for the southern part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship until Monday at 6:00 PM. The IMGW predicts rising air temperatures will cause thawing and snowmelt.
Weather Forecast for Saturday
Saturday afternoon will see extensive cloud cover with occasional clearings, particularly in northwestern Poland. Southeastern regions will initially have small and moderate cloud cover, increasing to extensive cloud cover in the evening with scattered showers.
Synoptician Anna Gryczman of the IMGW-PAP informed that rainfall in many regions, mainly from northwest to southwest, will be light, ranging from 1 to 3 mm. Rain mixed with snow is possible in the higher parts of the Sudetes Mountains.
Temperatures will range from 11°C to 13°C across most of the country, reaching up to 16°C in the southeast and dropping to 10°C on the northwest coast.
Storms Expected on Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday will begin with clear weather, but a frontal system will move in from the northwest, increasing cloud cover to moderate and extensive in the northwestern half of Poland. The southeast is expected to remain calm with no precipitation at least until the evening.
Scattered showers are expected, with rain mixed with snow possible in the Sudetes Mountains. Storms are also possible, potentially bringing hail, stronger wind gusts up to 65 km/h, and localized rainfall totals of up to 10 mm.
The approaching storm front will also bring stronger, gusty winds, potentially reaching 60 km/h and up to 80 km/h on the coast.
The IMGW forecasts relatively high temperatures, reaching 21°C in the southwest and south, around 18°C in the center, and cooler temperatures of 12-14°C along the coast and in the northeastern regions. Winds will be southwesterly and westerly.
Cooler Temperatures on Monday
Monday will see more clearings and less precipitation in western Poland, but scattered showers are possible throughout the country. In the northeast, showers may include rain and snow, while snow will fall in the Tatra Mountains, and it will remain windy.
Wind speeds will be moderate to strong throughout the day, with gusts up to 65 km/h and even 85 km/h on the coast. Temperatures will be noticeably cooler, ranging from 7°C on the coast to around 11°C in the center and up to 12°C in the southeast.
