Strong Tremor Shakes Małopolska as Houses Rock

Residents reported strong tremor near Chrzanów, Poland on Jan 22.

Initial Reports

On Thursday, January 22, before 22:00, RMF FM reported a strong tremor occurred near Chrzanów.

Przemysław Jaśko, director of the Chrzanów Crisis Management Center, stated “whole houses were shaking”.

Damage Concerns

Residents complained of potential structural damage to roofs, according to Jaśko.

Seismic Source

RMF FM reported the tremor likely originated at the “Janina” mine in Libiąż, approximately eight kilometers from Chrzanów.

Four tremors were recorded the previous day, Wednesday. The strongest measured 2.37 on the Richter scale.

Investigation Details

No injuries have been reported so far. The Main Mining Institute in Katowice is set to release details about the incident on Friday, January 23.
