Poland’s IMGW and RCB have issued wind alerts for 13 voivodeships, warning of potential damage and health risks through Sunday.
Wind Alerts Across Poland
Alerts from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) cover a total of 13 voivodeships. Second-degree warnings are in effect for the northern part of Pomeranian Voivodeship and the northeastern part of West Pomeranian Voivodeship, with average wind speeds up to 55 km/h and gusts up to 95 km/h.
A first-degree alert from IMGW covers the remainder of Pomerania and the area from the northwest to the eastern part of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The warning also applies to Warmian-Masurian, Podlaskie, Mazovian, Lublin, Świętokrzyskie, and Subcarpathian Voivodeships, as well as parts of Kujavian-Pomeranian, Greater Poland, Łódź, Silesian, and Lesser Poland Voivodeships. Winds are forecast to reach average speeds of up to 50 km/h, with gusts up to 75 km/h.
Potential Hazards and Safety Advice
Both first and second-degree warnings indicate dangerous meteorological phenomena that could cause significant material damage and pose threats to health and life.
RCB Alerts and Precautions
The Government Security Centre (RCB) has issued an alert for the northern parts of Pomeranian and West Pomeranian Voivodeships, effective Saturday, April 25th. The RCB advises caution during outdoor activities and warns against staying or parking under trees.
Extended Alerts for Lesser Poland Voivodeship
An RCB alert regarding strong winds will also be in effect for parts of Lesser Poland Voivodeship (Brzesko, Dąbrowa, Gorlice, Miechów, Nowy Sącz, Nowy Sącz County, Proszowice, Tarnów, and Tarnów County) from Saturday night into Sunday.
Emergency Services Response
The State Fire Service reported 126 interventions by Saturday at approximately 7:00 PM, addressing the effects of gales across Poland. Emergency services remain on full alert. The Ministry of Interior and Administration announced in a Saturday statement that winds are expected to weaken on Sunday.
Weather Forecast: Rain and Snow Possible
IMGW forecasts intermittent rainfall transitioning to rain and snow, and locally to wet snow, in the northeastern part of the country and in the submontane regions overnight Saturday into Sunday. Northern and eastern Poland may experience thunderstorms with sleet. Minimum temperatures will range from 0 degrees Celsius in the northeast to around 3 degrees in the center and 6-7 degrees in the south.
Sunday’s Weather Outlook
Intermittent rainfall is possible in eastern Poland on Sunday, with rain and snow expected in the northeast and submontane regions. Maximum temperatures will reach 6 degrees Celsius in the northeast and submontane Carpathian regions, around 11 degrees in the center, and up to 14 degrees in the southwest.
