Powerful winds swept across Poland starting Easter Sunday, prompting over 1500 emergency responses and ongoing weather alerts nationwide.
Severe Weather Conditions Across Poland
Difficult weather conditions have been affecting various regions of Poland since Easter Sunday (April 5th). Storms and strong winds were particularly prevalent overnight in many parts of the country.
As of 11:00 AM today (April 6th, Monday), approximately 1100 weather-related incidents had been reported, up from 426 the previous day. The Warsaw area and Lublin region have been most affected, with over 427 and 341 incidents respectively.
Incidents Reported
Fortunately, no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported, but authorities continue to urge caution in numerous counties. A tree branch fell onto a moving car, injuring one person who was transported to a hospital in Grudziądz.
In Przywory Duże, strong winds ripped the roof off a residential building. Near Lublin, a tree fell onto a parking lot, damaging four vehicles. A fallen tree branch also disrupted telecommunications and blocked a road in Gąski county.
IMGW Issues Further Warnings
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued new warnings for strong winds across twelve voivodeships, from northwest to southeast Poland. The coastal region is expected to experience the strongest gusts, with alerts also issued by the RCB (Government Centre for Security).
The second-level warning is in effect for the northern part of Pomeranian Voivodeship and Sławno County in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, with wind gusts potentially reaching up to 95 km/h. The average wind speed will be 45-60 km/h.
RCB Alert Details
The RCB advises residents to exercise caution outdoors and avoid standing or parking under trees. Existing first-level warnings remain in effect for the rest of West Pomeranian and Pomeranian Voivodeships, as well as the entire Kujavian-Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian, Mazovian, Podlaskian, and Lublin Voivodeships, and parts of Lubusz, Wielkopolska, Łódź, Świętokrzyskie, and Subcarpathian Voivodeships.
These alerts are valid until Monday at 9:00 PM. Warnings of the first and second degrees indicate conditions conducive to dangerous meteorological phenomena that could cause material damage and pose a threat to health and life.
