Sudden Weather Shift Hits Poland, Storm Alerts Issued for Most Regions

From Thursday morning, Poland faces a sudden weather reversal with heavy rainfall, strong winds and soaring temperatures, according to IMGW meteorologists.

Sudden Weather Shift Hits Poland

Weather forecasters at the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) announced a pending dramatic change, with the sun giving way to increased rainfall and gusty winds across the country. An atmospheric front will move over Poland, initially showing cloud cover in the west before advancing over the center, warned Tomasz Zubilewicz of TVN Meteo. Heavy showers are expected almost everywhere, with the north expecting up to 10–12 mm/m², while the south will see the least rain but temperatures reaching 16 °C, and 17 °C in Lesser Poland. The northeast will stay cooler, around 11–12 °C.

Wind forecasts predict sustained speeds up to 40 km/h, gusts up to 75 km/h from the southwest and west; the north may experience stronger winds reaching 55 km/h with gusts of 90 km/h and along the coast up to 110 km/h from the west.

IMGW Storm Alerts in Effect

Second‑degree alerts, valid from 07:30 Thursday until 07:30 Friday, cover the West Pomeranian voivodeship (county: Koszaliński, Koszalin, Sławieński) and the Pomeranian voivodeship (county: Słupski, Słupsk, Lęborski, Wejherowski, Pucki). First‑degree alerts apply to a broader area: West Pomeranian (excluding the above counties), Pomeranian, Warmian‑Masurian, Podlaskie, northern‑most counties of Masovian, Łódź (excluding Radomszczański and Opoczyński), Kuyavian‑Pomeranian, Greater Poland, Lubusz, Lower Silesian, Opole (excluding southern‑eastern counties), Silesian (counties: Cieszynski, Bielski, Bielsko‑Biała, Żywiecki), Lesser Poland (counties: Oświęcimski, Wadowicki, Suski, Nowotarski, Tatrzański, Limanowski, Nowosądecki, Gorlicki), Podkarpackie (counties: Jasielski, Krośnieński, Krosno, Sanocki, Leski, Bieszczadzki).

Weather Outlook for the Rest of the Week

Friday is expected to bring calmer winds and more sunshine, with temperatures between 10 and 13 °C, while Saturday should see a rise to 11–17 °C. Sunday will again see an increase in cloud cover and stronger winds, as warned by Zubilewicz.
