On Sunday, November 16, Ekopatrol responders found a cluster of bats nesting in sports shoes on a balcony in the city’s Klaudyna Street, and relocated them to municipal forests.
Scene: Bats Nesting in Shoes
Only from close up could one see that indeed the sports shoes standing on the balcony were swarming with bats. Hiding from the cold, they had found a rather unusual hideout.
The sight of small winged mammals could have melted hearts, yet it was not the safest place to spend winter.
The Call: Residents Seeking Help
On Sunday evening, November 16, Ekopatrol received an urgent report from Klaudyna Street. The caller needed help with a flock of bats that had taken up residence on his balcony.
Ekopatrol’s Unexpected Encounter
Though Ekopatrol officers had intervened in similar situations before, the sight on the spot still surprised them. Upon entering the balcony, the apartment owner pointed to the shoes, saying, “Where are the bats?–They’re in… shoes.”
Rescue and Relocation
The guard decided to transport the bats to the Municipal Forests. The shoe owner offered his shoes to keep the bats calm. About 20 bats were moved in a secure transporter to the Municipal Forests where experts will look after them.
