A 44‑year‑old Siedlce suspect has been taken to custody for a daring jewelry robbery that netted nearly 90,000 złoty.
Robbery Details
On 2 October, a man slipped into a jewellery shop in Siedlce and stole two display cases containing 60 rings worth about 90 000 złoty, taking advantage of a momentary lapse by staff.
Escape and Disappearance
After the theft he fled toward the city centre, abandoning his jacket, a dark hoodie and the empty cases. He then boarded a passing Toyota as a passenger, alighted at Bema Street, and vanished.
Police Investigation
Polecemised quickly by Siedlec police, the case was investigated using CCTV footage and gathered evidence, identifying a suspect who had a prior criminal record for similar offences.
Arrest and Charges
The suspect, a 44‑year‑old resident of Międzyrzec Podlaski, was taken into custody in Warsaw and charged with a particularly bold theft, punishable under the penal code by up to eight years in prison.
Legal Outcome
Because he had served at least six months for a similar intentional crime in the past five years, the act was considered a repeat offence. The Siedlce District Court therefore imposed a three‑month temporary arrest pending trial.
