27-year-old fraud suspect detained in Kraków hotel, also wanted for prison sentence.
Arrest in Hotel Room
A man suspected of fraud was located in a hotel room in Kraków and detained by criminal police from Warsaw’s Bemowo. The 27-year-old was also wanted to serve a sentence of one year and four months in prison. By court decision, the suspect was placed in detention for three months.
Fraud Investigation Details
Criminal police from the Bemowo Division were conducting investigations into reported fraud cases. Preliminary information indicates that the perpetrator met with jewelry and watch sellers through a sales platform. During the meeting, he arranged for payment for goods in the form of watches and jewelry with a total value of approximately 70,000 PLN to be made via bank transfers.
He collected the goods from the seller, and a contract was drawn up and signed in which he stated that payment for the goods had been made in cash. The victim was misled and thus exposed to the loss of jewelry and watches with a total value of 70,000 PLN.
Additional Fraud Case
Police also determined that another person was scammed in a similar manner. This time, the perpetrator entered into a purchase and sale contract for a watch worth 35,000 PLN, which he did not honor, and despite receiving the watch, did not pay for it.
Investigation and Arrest
The investigators thoroughly analyzed the evidence. As a result of operational activities, they located the man’s whereabouts. In Kraków, in a hotel room, they detained the 27-year-old and recovered one of the lost watches.
The man was also wanted under a warrant for transfer to a correctional facility issued by the Regional Court in Kielce to serve a sentence of 1 year and 8 months in prison for fraud. The man was taken to the Bemowo police station.
Legal Proceedings
Investigators determined that the 27-year-old had a record for similar offenses in the past. At the Warsaw-Wola District Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect was charged with fraud. At the prosecutor’s request, by court decision, the suspect was temporarily detained for three months. For fraud, the penalty is up to 8 years in prison.
