Krzysztof Szczucki, former head of the Polish Radio for Culture (RCL), faces charges of misusing public funds during the 2020-2023 period for campaign activities.
Allegations of Improper Hiring Practices
Prosecutors allege that Szczucki hired several individuals at RCL between 2020 and 2023 specifically for election campaign work. Investigators claim these individuals did not actually work for RCL but were engaged in activities supporting his campaign.
Public Funds Used for Campaigning
The prosecution accuses the politician from the Law and Justice (PiS) party of using public funds to finance his election campaign. Investigations by the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) suggest at least 900,000 złoty was improperly disbursed.
Criminal Charges and Immunity Waiver
The case falls under Article 231 of the Penal Code, concerning abuse of power and failure to fulfill duties. Szczucki voluntarily waived his parliamentary immunity over a year ago, paving the way for prosecution.
Impact on Party Funding
Szczucki’s case was also cited as a factor in the National Electoral Commission’s (PKW) decision to withhold state funding from PiS.
