Szydło Faults Information Flow to Kaczyński, Open to Talks with PSL

Following a PiS leadership meeting in Warsaw on April 16th, Beata Szydło criticized the accuracy of information reaching party leader Jarosław Kaczyński and signaled potential post-election coalition talks with the Polish People’s Party.

PiS Leadership Meeting Held in Warsaw

On Tuesday, April 16th, a meeting of the Law and Justice (PiS) leadership took place at the party’s headquarters on Nowogrodzka Street in Warsaw. Attendees included party leader Jarosław Kaczyński, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, prime ministerial candidate Przemysław Czarnek, and Member of the European Parliament Adam Bielan.

The specific topics discussed during the meeting were not officially disclosed, but representatives indicated that the conversation focused on campaign strategy and potential post-election scenarios.

Szydło: Potential Coalition with PSL After Elections

Beata Szydło stated on Wednesday on Radio ZET that, in addition to discussing the political situation in Hungary, the party leadership also reviewed the election campaign. When questioned about the dissemination of alleged false information regarding future Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar by PiS leader Kaczyński, Szydło expressed “objections to the people who showed or presented that information to the chairman.”

She added, “It is well known that the chairman receives some information from collaborators, so someone simply, to put it colloquially, messed up.”

Need for Campaign Flexibility and Coalition Building

The former Prime Minister also emphasized the need for “analyzing the situation and reacting in real-time.” She added that if necessary, tactics would need to be changed and decisions made, potentially including building a coalition, requiring a “smart approach” to the election campaign.

PSL in a “Difficult Situation,” Potential for Talks

Regarding the Polish People’s Party (PSL), Szydło assessed that the party is in a “difficult situation” and that Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz appears willing to meet with Mateusz Morawiecki for debates. She stated that after a potential election victory, they could discuss forming a government with the PSL.

Szydło expressed hope that PSL members would recognize they are in a “very bad situation for themselves and for Poland.”

Morawiecki’s Future and Party Activities

When asked about Mateusz Morawiecki potentially leaving PiS to form his own party, Szydło said she saw “nothing wrong with PiS politicians engaging in activities,” but emphasized that any such activity must “align with and support our political activity, not be in opposition.” She noted that many party colleagues are either members of associations or collaborate with them, which she considered normal.

Bielan Optimistic About Morawiecki’s Future

Member of the European Parliament Adam Bielan, also questioned about the meeting, described the discussions as “good, really great” and predicted a “bright” future for Morawiecki. He characterized the talks as a “constructive conversation about the future of our political camp,” praising the presentations by Morawiecki and Czarnek.
