The National Revenue Administration has reported journalist Krzysztof Stanowski to the prosecutor’s office following his aggressive, on-air verbal attack against a tax official who fined a pizzeria for VAT errors.
The incident at the pizzeria
Krzysztof Stanowski publicly criticized a tax official who issued a 2,500 PLN fine to a Gdansk-based business, Pizzeria Sabroso. The establishment had previously reported receiving the penalty in May for applying an incorrect VAT rate to a pizza order.
Stanowski’s aggressive commentary
In a broadcast on his YouTube channel, Channel Zero, Stanowski directed verbal abuse at the official, calling her “stupid” and “repulsive.” He suggested the official should be stripped and tied to a post so the public could witness her incompetence, sparking immediate backlash.
National Revenue Administration response
The National Revenue Administration (KAS) issued a strong condemnation of the comments, labeling them “slanderous” and “unacceptable.” KAS stated that such personal attacks against public employees transcend the boundaries of acceptable public debate.
Prosecutorial involvement
On June 8, 2026, the Director of the Tax Administration Chamber in Gdansk formally submitted a notification to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, alleging that a crime had been committed and requesting an official investigation.
Political backlash
Finance Minister Andrzej Domański denounced the remarks, vowing to defend officials performing their statutory duties. Similarly, Deputy Minister Katarzyna Kotula criticized Stanowski for failing to address the legislative origins of the tax laws, describing his behavior as a “perfidious” campaign against an individual official.
