Teen Arrested After Entering Tarnobrzeg School with Machete

A 14‑year‑old student was arrested after entering the sixth‑level elementary school in Tarnobrzeg, Poland, with a machete, and later charged with attempted grievous bodily harm and murder‑preparation.

Incident at Tarnobrzeg Elementary School

On Monday 15 December, 8:30 a.m., a 14‑year‑old eighth‑grade student entered Polish elementary school No.7 in Tarnobrzeg carrying a machete. A staff member intervened, shouting to stop the boy. The teenager, frightened, hit the man with the plastic handle of the blade and fled the building. He was later detained near the school, and authorities confirmed he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Arrest and Charges

He was questioned the following day in the presence of his parent and a court psychologist. Prosecutors accused him of attempted serious bodily harm and of preparing a homicide. Because of his age, the case was handled by the juvenile court, which ordered his placement in a youth care facility until 15 March.

Motive Under Investigation

Reports suggest the boy was well‑regarded at school, served as class president, and studied well. Unverified claims that his mother was about to be dismissed from the same school circulated, but authorities have not confirmed this. Investigators are still probing whether that alleged dismissal or other factors motivated the act.
