A 17-year-old girl died Sunday afternoon near Zgorzelec, Poland, after a car driven by a man with a driving prohibition crashed into a tree.
Crash Details Emerge
The accident occurred around 5:30 PM on April 5th on a county road near Mała Wieś Dolna. Preliminary investigations indicate that a 20-year-old resident of the Luban county lost control of his Audi due to excessive speed for the road conditions.
The vehicle veered into a roadside ditch and collided with a tree.
Fatalities and Injuries
The 17-year-old female passenger, a resident of the Zgorzelec county, died at the scene. Two other occupants – a 16-year-old and a 26-year-old – were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Driver Faced Legal Restrictions
Authorities determined that the 20-year-old driver was operating the vehicle despite a valid court order prohibiting him from driving. He was found to be sober, but a blood sample was taken for further analysis.
The driver was detained, and the vehicle was impounded.
Ongoing Investigation
Police from Zgorzelec, including forensic technicians and accident reconstruction experts, are investigating the incident under the supervision of a prosecutor. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
Police Appeal for Road Safety
“This event demonstrates how little it takes for a tragedy to occur. Excessive speed, recklessness, and disregard for traffic laws can lead to irreversible consequences,” police stated on social media. They urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, adjust their driving to road conditions, and never drive under the influence or in violation of driving bans.
