Teen Hits Police Officer with Electric Moped During Escape Attempt

A 17-year-old resident was detained in Wilanów after striking a police officer with an electric moped while attempting to evade a traffic stop on Kostki Potockiego Street.

Incident at Kostki Potockiego Street

The Deputy Commander of the Warsaw Wilanów Police Station, operating from an unmarked vehicle, noticed an electric moped traveling without a license plate on Kostki Potockiego Street. The officer’s suspicions were raised by both the driver’s manner of riding and the condition of the vehicle.

According to Sergeant Marta Haberska, the spokesperson for the Warsaw II District Police Commander, the driving style and the state of the vehicle prompted concerns regarding the driver’s qualifications and whether the vehicle was authorized for road use.

Assault and Detainment

Upon receiving a command to stop, the 17-year-old driver attempted to evade the inspection. During the intervention, the teenager accelerated the moped toward the officer, striking him in the leg.

Sergeant Haberska stated that despite sustaining an injury, the officer managed to prevent the vehicle from continuing and subdued the driver. A supporting patrol was dispatched, and police identified the suspect as a 17-year-old local resident who lacked a driving license.

Illegal Modifications and Criminal Charges

Investigators noted that the moped lacked a license plate and appeared to have undergone illegal structural modifications. Preliminary checks showed that when the “SPORT” mode was activated, the vehicle’s parameters significantly exceeded the limits allowed for a moped.

Police suspect the construction was modified to increase power and speed, posing a serious threat to other road users. The teenager was taken to the station and faces charges for failing to comply with a stop command and forcing a public official to abandon a legal duty.

Regulatory Warnings and Context

Authorities warned that illegal modifications can change an electric vehicle’s classification, necessitating registration and insurance. They urged users to follow traffic regulations to avoid criminal liability and ensure road safety.

This incident follows a pattern of similar behavior involving young people on electric vehicles, following previous reports of teenagers causing disturbances in Wilanów and various raids across the capital.
