Teenagers’ Harassment of Family Results in Over $1,700 in Damages

Three teenagers in Piła, Poland, systematically harassed a family, escalating from “pranks” to vandalism causing over 7,000 zł in losses.

Initial Harassment and Escalation

The incidents began late last year when three teenagers decided to target a peer and their family. Initially, the actions were described as seemingly harmless “jokes,” but quickly became more aggressive.

The teenagers began damaging the family’s property, including ringing the doorbell, kicking the fence, and throwing eggs.

Vandalism and Increasing Severity

Police investigations revealed the boys repeatedly rang the intercom and fled, kicked the gate and fence, and threw eggs and bottles at the house. The perpetrators increasingly found disturbing others to be a form of entertainment, according to police.

Damage to Property

The teenagers detonated a firecracker in the mailbox, damaging a section of the fence. They also scratched a parked car, deflated a tire, threw stones at the building, and threw a firecracker at a window, damaging the windowsill. Total damages are estimated at over 7,000 zł.

Investigation and Arrests

The case was reported to police after the initial incidents, and the perpetrators were captured on surveillance footage, though they attempted to conceal their faces. Police conducted an extended investigation to identify them.

A breakthrough came in early March with additional information leading to the identification of the suspects. The perpetrators were identified as 15-year-old residents of Piła and the Kaczory commune and were detained on March 13th. Further investigation was conducted by the Criminal Prevention, Minors, and Pathology Team, who gathered evidence and questioned the suspects in the presence of their guardians.

Legal Proceedings

Police reported the teenagers were unable to rationally explain their behavior. The case files have been forwarded to the Family and Juvenile Courts in Piła and Chodzież, which will determine appropriate educational measures. These measures could include community service, probation, or placement in a Youth Educational Center, as well as an obligation to compensate for the damages.
