Polish counter‑intelligence ABW detained a 40‑year‑old resident of Trójmiasto on 18 December 2025, ordering a three‑month temporary arrest for alleged espionage involving military transport footage.
Temporary Arrest
The court granted the prosecutor’s request and imposed a three‑month temporary arrest on Piotr B., a 40‑year‑old man from Trójmiasto. He faces charges of collecting, storing, and distributing audiovisual material that could damage the Republic of Poland if transmitted to a foreign intelligence service. The case is being handled by the Bydgoszcz District Prosecutor’s Office.
Railway and Military Transport Materials
The investigation, launched on evidence gathered by ABW officials in Bydgoszcz, concerns activities between 18 November and 9 December 2025. Prosecutors allege that Piotr B. recorded videos and took photographs of railway infrastructure and the transport of military equipment, then shared the material via a dedicated channel on an internet communicator used to provide information to a foreign intelligence service.
Detention and Search
On 18 December 2025, ABW officers detained Piotr B. at his residence and seized numerous data carriers, including several mobile phones. He was brought before the Bydgoszcz District Prosecutor’s Office and charged under Article 130(3) of the Polish Criminal Code for espionage, a offence punishable by up to eight years’ imprisonment.
Prosecutor’s Concerns
The prosecutor cited the high risk of sentencing, Piotr B.’s prior criminal record, and potential procedural risk. To safeguard the integrity of the proceedings, investigators requested an “isolating preventive measure.” The court fully endorsed this argument.
