A 31‑year‑old man was arrested and placed in police custody following a fatal collision on Route 76 near Łopacianka (municipality of Borowie) on Friday, 7 November. He faces charges of causing a fatal accident and operating a vehicle while intoxicated despite a court‑issued driving ban.
Details of the Accident
At 17:29, the Garwolin police commander received an alert about a collision between two cars. Rescue teams arrived immediately, but they could not save the 72‑year‑old victim who died at the scene. The collision occurred when the suspect’s BMW veered onto the opposite lane and struck a Ford traveling in the opposite direction.
Alcohol Test Results
Police tests found the suspect had over two promille of alcohol in his system. Blood was taken for further analysis. He also had a legally imposed driving prohibition.
Legal Proceedings
Investigators filed a request for preventive detention. The court granted a three‑month temporary arrest on 10 November. Depending on aggravating circumstances, the suspect could face up to 16 years in prison.
