Tens of Thousands to Run, Major Traffic Disruptions Expected in Warsaw

Warsaw will temporarily close streets in several districts on Sunday for a running event, impacting traffic and public transport throughout the day.

Street Closures in City Center and Beyond

The city will temporarily close streets in Śródmieście, Żoliborz, Bielany, Praga-Północ, and Praga-Południe. Runners will start at Poniatowski Bridge, proceeding along Jerozolimskie Avenue and Nowy Świat Street.

The route continues through Krakowskie Przedmieście and Miodowa Street, then through Żoliborz to Bielany. Runners will return south near Wybrzeże Gdyńskie, cross the Vistula River via Gdański Bridge, and finish on the PGE Narodowy grounds.

Detailed Street Closure Schedule

Royal Route (both directions, 10:00-12:30), Miodowa Street (10:00-13:00), Mickiewicza Street (towards Osiedle Ruda, 10:00-14:00), Podleśna Street (both directions, 10:00-14:30), Gwiaździsta Street (10:00-14:30), Wisłostrada towards the center (10:30-15:30), Gdański Bridge towards Praga (10:30-15:30), Wybrzeże Helskie (both directions, 8:00-16:00), and Wybrzeże Szczecińskie (8:00-16:00) will be closed. Parking is prohibited on most streets along the route.

Early Closures Begin Saturday Evening

Initial closures begin Saturday at 6:00 PM with the connector of the northern carriageway of J. Poniatowskiego Avenue and Wybrzeże Szczecińskie. At 7:00 PM, the southern carriageway of Józef Poniatowski Bridge and J. Poniatowskiego Avenue (from Wioślarska Street to J. Waszyngtona Roundabout) will close. Bus routes will be altered accordingly.

Sunday Closures – Phased Approach

On Sunday, the race route will be closed and reopened in stages. Some buses will operate on shortened routes throughout the day, including lines 178, 503, 518, and 521. At 5:00 AM, Jerozolimskie Avenue, Józef Poniatowski Bridge, and the connecting J. Poniatowskiego Avenue (from Gen. de Gaulle Roundabout to J. Waszyngtona Roundabout), along with the eastern carriageway of Wał Miedzeszyński and Wybrzeże Szczecińskie (from Zwycięzców to Świętokrzyski Bridge) will be fully closed. Buses will be rerouted.

From 8:00 AM, streets along the “Run for Five” route will close, followed by phased closures along the half-marathon route from 10:00 AM. Buses will be diverted. Route restoration will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until 6:00 PM.

Tram Disruptions and Rerouting

Tram line 28 will operate an extended route from Metro Młociny to Kawęczyńska – Bazylika. Tram traffic will be suspended on Jerozolimskie Avenue, Józef Poniatowski Bridge, and J. Poniatowskiego Avenue (from S. Starynkiewicza Square to J. Waszyngtona Roundabout) until approximately 6:00 PM.

Lines 9 and 24 will terminate at the Zieleniecka Aleja loop on the Praga side and S. Starynkiewicza Square on the Ochota side. Line 22 will end its courses at Wiatraczna on the Praga side. Tram traffic on Żoliborz will be suspended during the race, with service expected to resume around 6:00 PM. Details are available on the WTP website.
