Polish MP Ryszard Terlecki issued an apology to former minister Sławomir Nitrasa in a midnight parliamentary session on 5 December, citing an appellate court ruling.
Apology Delivered in Midnight Sejm Session
During a nocturnal session of the Polish lower house on Thursday night into Friday 5 December, MP Ryszard Terlecki announced that he would offer an apology to Sławomir Nitrasa, in accordance with a Szczecin appellate court judgement.
Apology Content and Referenced Dates
In his statement, Terlecki apologized for the “offensive phrases and designations” he had used towards Nitrasa on 9 November 2017, and again on 9 and 10 December 2020, which he said infringed Nitrasa’s personal dignity. He expressed regret for his behaviour.
Social Media Reactions
Former Minister Nitrasa posted a clip of the apology on X with the caption “Slow but just.” He also received comments from Agnieszka Pomaska of KO highlighting the importance of responsibility for words in public life, and from Barbara Nowacka who congratulated him on his courtroom victory.
Past Remarks Between the Two Politicians
According to Terlecki, during the periods cited he had directed to Nitrasa the remarks “sit, you fool” and “hit the Platform.” In 2020 Nitrasa sent Terlecki a letter demanding apologies and payments to several organisations, threatening legal action, which eventually led to a favourable ruling for KO last year.
Sejm Proceedings Partly Sealed and Tusk’s Crypto Speech
Part of the Friday session was closed at the Prime Minister’s request; Donald Tusk spoke publicly on the floor, criticizing the crypto market’s infiltration by foreign entities. Amid his remarks a fellow MP shouted for the session to be opened, to which Tusk replied that documents should be handled properly.
