The commander of the 2nd Lublin Territorial Defense Brigade has dismissed a soldier following an incident on May 31 where he allegedly doused his son’s friend with gasoline and set him on fire.
The Incident and Legal Proceedings
According to prosecutor Marcin Kozak of the Lublin District Prosecutor’s Office, the 47-year-old soldier allegedly doused his son’s friend in gasoline during an argument and ignited him. The suspect is also accused of obstructing efforts to provide medical assistance to the victim.
The victim was hospitalized with extensive burns and remains in life-threatening condition. The suspect was apprehended following a short pursuit and was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest. The Military Affairs Division of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin is currently handling the case.
Military Response and Dismissal
The Territorial Defense Forces (WOT) confirmed that the individual served in the 2nd Lublin Territorial Defense Brigade. Officials stressed that the act was unrelated to the soldier’s official duties or military tasks.
The commander of the 2nd Lublin Territorial Defense Brigade has formally dismissed the soldier from service. The military stated that there is no place in their ranks for behavior that compromises the reputation of the Polish Armed Forces and the values expected of a soldier, noting that no further information will be released while the investigation is ongoing.
