TGV Train Collides with Truck; Driver Killed

A TGV train collided with a truck on Tuesday morning between Bethune and Lens in France’s Pas-de-Calais department, resulting in the death of the train driver and 27 injuries.

Train Driver Dies in Collision

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7th, between the prefectures of Bethune and Lens in the Pas-de-Calais department. The train driver died as a result of the collision, and 27 passengers sustained injuries, according to local authorities and French railways SNCF.

Approximately 350 people were on board the train at the time of the incident.

Rail Service Disrupted

Railway traffic has been suspended at least until Tuesday evening. SNCF and local authorities have not yet provided details regarding the circumstances of the accident.

SNCF announced that rail service between Bethune and Lens will remain suspended until at least Tuesday evening.

Government Response

Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot stated on X that he is traveling to the scene of the accident along with SNCF President Jean Castex.
