The “Doctor” Scam: Teenager Arrested for 50,000 Złoty Fraud

Police in Warsaw have arrested an 18-year-old woman from Wrocław who allegedly defrauded a senior citizen of 50,000 złoty by posing as a doctor requiring funds for emergency medication.

The Investigation and Arrest

Detectives from the Warsaw Praga-Południe district tracked the suspect to a residence in Wrocław, where she had been staying with her grandparents. Following an extensive analysis of the case, officers apprehended the 18-year-old and seized clothing and items used during the commission of the crime.

The suspect was transported to the District Police Headquarters for Warsaw VII, where she was formally charged with fraud. Following a request from the Warsaw Praga-Południe District Prosecutor’s Office, the court has ordered her to be held in temporary detention for three months.

The “Doctor” Fraud Scheme

The incident involved a classic deceptive scheme where the victim received a phone call from an individual posing as a doctor. The caller claimed the victim’s daughter had fainted and was at risk of sepsis, necessitating the urgent purchase of expensive medication from Germany.

The 18-year-old suspect allegedly traveled from Wrocław to the Wesoła district of Warsaw to collect the 50,000 złoty from the senior citizen. Law enforcement notes that these types of scams, whether involving fake police officers, doctors, or bank employees, require significant operational resources and meticulous investigation to solve.
