Trump threatens tariffs on eight countries
Last week, Donald Trump announced tariffs from February on eight countries that rejected his claims to Greenland and sent their soldiers there in symbolic support. Extraordinary EU Summit with nuclear option on table
This week, most likely on Thursday (January 22), an extraordinary EU summit is to be convened by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa. Representatives of member states will decide on the EU’s response to the US President’s threats. On Sunday (January 18), EU ambassadors met.
Diplomats in conversation with Polish Radio’s Brussels correspondent Beata Płomecka emphasized that in this matter all options are on the table, including the nuclear option. This refers to the so-called bazooka trade, regulations that the EU has not yet used. They are prepared in case a third country economically blackmails the Union. The range of possible actions includes tariffs, import restrictions, limits on public procurement, and targeting American investments, services, and companies, including digital giants.
