A 31-year-old with three lifetime driving bans arrested after stealing cash register and fleeing police while intoxicated.
Pursuit and Arrest
Following a police chase that ended in Kozienice County, a 31-year-old resident of Ryki County was apprehended. The man, suspected of stealing a cash register from a store in Garwolin County, was driving under the influence while violating three lifetime court orders banning him from driving vehicles. The court has ordered him to spend the next two months in detention.
Theft Incident
Last Thursday (February 12) around 11:20, a report was filed with the Garwolin County Police Station regarding a theft in Więcków (Trojanów municipality). Police determined that the man entered the store, requested a product from a salesperson, and then took advantage of a moment of inattention to steal the cash register with its contents. After the theft, the perpetrator fled and drove toward Ryki County.
Police Response
Garwolin police immediately initiated action. Information about the incident, including a detailed vehicle description and direction of escape, was promptly relayed to the duty officer at the Ryki County Police Station. Simultaneously, Garwolin officers secured the crime scene and began procedural activities.
High-Speed Chase
Thanks to rapid information exchange between units, a traffic patrol from Ryki County spotted a matching vehicle. The driver failed to stop for inspection and attempted to escape, sparking a chase involving additional patrols including officers from Dęblin and Kozienice County Police Stations.
Detention and Charges
The pursuit concluded in Wola Klasztorna where police arrested the driver. He was identified as a 31-year-old Ryki County resident. Tests showed nearly 1 permil of alcohol in his system. The man also possessed three lifetime court orders prohibiting him from driving vehicles. During further investigation, officers recovered the stolen cash register.
Court Proceedings
The suspect was taken to police custody where at the Ryki District Prosecutor’s Office, he faced charges including driving under the influence as a repeat offender, violating court orders, and failing to stop for a road check. He will also answer for the theft. The Ryki District Court ordered him detained for two months. For the committed offenses, he faces a potential prison sentence of up to 5 years.
