Wyszków police apprehended a 39-year-old intoxicated man shortly after he stole a luxury Mercedes from its owner in Kamieńczyk, recovering the 400,000 PLN vehicle from a forest within two hours.
The Theft and Rapid Police Response
Wyszków police recovered a stolen Mercedes valued at over 400,000 PLN and arrested a 39-year-old suspect. The man stole the vehicle nearly in front of the owner, but officers located the car in a forest and detained the perpetrator within two hours of the report.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 27, at a property in Kamieńczyk, Wyszków municipality. The 40-year-old owner had left the keys inside the vehicle; while she was only meters away, the suspect seized the opportunity, entered the car, and drove off.
GPS Tracking and Investigation
Police were able to track the Mercedes using data from the vehicle’s GPS system. Relying on local knowledge and professional experience, officers found the car abandoned in a forest within the Łochów municipality.
Breathalyzer testing revealed the suspect had nearly 2.0 per mille of alcohol in his system. Further checks disclosed that the man’s driving privileges had been revoked and he had a prior criminal record involving burglary and theft.
Charges and Legal Consequences
The 39-year-old was placed in custody following his arrest. On Friday, May 29, he was charged with vehicle theft, driving under the influence, and driving despite a suspended license.
A court has ordered the suspect to be detained for three months pending trial. He faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
