Three balloons with sizable packages attached were found on May 1st in Iwkowa, Brzesko County, in the Małopolska region.

Contents of the Packages

The packages contained cigarettes without Polish excise stamps.

Initial Report and Safety Checks

The Brzesko County Police Department received a report around 6:00 AM from a passerby regarding the balloons and packages in Iwkowa, according to officer Ewelina Buda.

Before inspecting the contents, officers secured the area and checked the packages for explosives to eliminate any threat to the surroundings.

Illegal Goods Confirmed

Once the risk of an explosion was ruled out, the contents were confirmed to be illegal goods.

“Currently, an examination of the package is underway, but we already know preliminarily that these are cigarettes without Polish excise duty marks,” stated the police officer.

Investigation Underway

Police are investigating the origin and intended destination of the shipment.

When asked about the possible foreign origin of the cargo – including potential Cyrillic writing – Buda confirmed only that the cigarettes lacked Polish excise stamps.

“We will now investigate who was the sender of the shipment and where it was supposed to go. All circumstances of this event will be the subject of our investigation,” she emphasized. The investigation is ongoing.
