Three S17 Collisions in Morning Rush End With Fines for Drivers

Three separate crashes on Poland’s S17 expressway near Potaszniki and Woli Rębkowskiej between 6:50 and 7:43 a.m. left only material damage, and all involved drivers were fined.

First collision at 06:50 on S17 heading to Lublin

In Potaszniki, a Skoda failed to maintain a safe following distance and struck the rear of a Volvo truck with a trailer. The incident caused only material damage and resulted in a fine for the driver.

Second collision at 07:31 – Mercedes hits stopped Renault

Later that morning, the driver of a Mercedes freight truck again failed to keep a safe distance and collided with the rear of a Renault that had stopped due to a developing traffic jam. No injuries were reported, and the driver received a fine.

Third collision at 07:43 near Woli Rębkowska

On the section heading towards Warsaw, a Volkswagen driver changed lanes without adequate caution and caused a crash with an Audi. Like the previous incidents, only property damage occurred and the Volkswagen driver was penalized.

Police cite lack of safe distance and care as primary causes

Officials highlighted that during peak traffic times on expressways, maintaining concentration and a safe gap from the vehicle ahead is essential, as even a brief lapse can trigger successive accidents.
