Thursday “Speed” Operation in Warsaw Garrison: 1,284 Violations Recorded

Polish police in Warsaw and surrounding counties intercepted over 1,400 motorists on Thursday, documenting 1,284 traffic violations, the vast majority for speeding.

Intensive Speed Checks

During the all‑day operation, officers examined driving speeds across Warsaw and nearby counties, registering 1,284 traffic infractions, with 1,160 related to exceeding speed limits.

Purpose of the Operation

The nationwide “Speed” campaign aimed to enforce speed regulations—a key factor in reducing road accidents and their severity.

Methods and Cooperation

Policemen deployed both marked and unmarked radio vans equipped with video recorders and laser speed meters, working alongside the SPEED group, which combats dangerous driving behaviors.

Results

More than 1,400 road users were tackled; 1,084 were fined, 114 court submissions were made, and 808 cases involved excessive acceleration near pedestrian crossings.

Severe Excesses

Thirty‑one drivers were caught exceeding the speed limit by at least 50 km/h; one example was a driver traveling 104 km/h on Grochowska Street, who also had an active driving ban and an uninspected vehicle.

Sobriety Checks

Police conducted 1,617 breath‑tests, finding alcohol present in 3 individuals. They also seized 53 driver plates and 26 licences.

Safety Reminder

Even minor speed limit infractions can carry serious consequences; in autumn–winter conditions, adapting speed to road conditions and increasing following distance is vital.
